Bartender

Now Hiring: Bartender for Our New Boxcar Bar

High Hourly Pay + Independent Role | Approx. 22 hours/week

Location: FREIGHT, Leadville, CO

Part-time | Seasonal | $22–$25/hr depending on experience

FREIGHT is a beautifully restored historic train depot that serves as a private event venue, hosting weddings, corporate events, and community gatherings. In addition to renting the depot space, we host our own curated events throughout the year.

Recently, we’ve opened a unique Boxcar Bar on the property—a cozy, converted boxcar with seating for 18, plus a deck that accommodates 10–15 guests, and a full courtyard featuring yard games. The Boxcar Bar offers an intimate, relaxed atmosphere and is also available for private rental as part of the overall venue, making this a dynamic and evolving space within our business.

We also have 13 cabins on our property open year-round for visitors to rent, and guests staying in the cabins often come by to check out the bar, adding to the welcoming community vibe of the property.

We’re looking for an experienced, reliable, and self-motivated bartender to run our brand-new Boxcar Bar, a cozy converted bar space located right on our property. This is a unique role for someone who enjoys autonomy, consistency, and being part of something just getting started.

Right now, we’re in the early stages of building awareness—traffic is light, and some shifts may only see a few customers. In exchange, we’re offering higher-than-average hourly pay and a consistent, predictable schedule for the right person who can be trusted to work independently and represent our venue well.

Schedule & Hours:

  • Sunday through Wednesday, 4:00–8:00 PM
  • Shifts typically run from 3:00–8:30 PM to allow for opening and closing duties
  • Approx. 22 hours per week
  • Closed for private events on occasion (schedule provided in advance)
  • We’re ideally looking for someone who can commit to this position for a minimum of 4 months, September-December, but the overall time frame is flexible—we’re happy to discuss what works best for you and see where things go from there
  • Training will begin the week of August 24th

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Serving beer, wine, and drinks from a small, cocktail menu
  • Making occasional custom cocktails when ingredients and time allow
  • Opening, maintaining, and closing the bar space on your own
  • Keeping the space clean, welcoming, and ready to go
  • Offering warm, professional service to every guest—even on the quiet nights

Who We’re Looking For:

  • Experienced bartender who’s confident and comfortable working solo
  • Someone dependable, trustworthy, and ready to take ownership of the role
  • A friendly, guest-focused individual who enjoys low-volume, high-quality service
  • Open to change and flexibility — this is a brand-new space, and we’re still learning what works best. We’re looking for someone who’s excited to grow with us, adapt as the bar evolves, and help shape it into a welcoming, well-run destination.
  • Available for all or most Sunday–Wednesday shifts through the season
  • A dedicated team member — while we understand the need for occasional time off, we are ideally hiring one person to consistently cover these shifts
  • Comfortable being the primary person on site, with a manager available by phone if needed

Pay:

  • $22–$25/hour, depending on experience
  • We’re offering a higher hourly rate to reflect the independent nature of the role and current guest volume
  • As the bar grows and begins to generate steady sales and tips, the hourly structure may be revisited to align more closely with standard bartending pay models—while still reflecting the unique level of responsibility and independence this role carries

We’re excited to build something special with the Boxcar Bar—and we’re looking for someone who’s just as excited to help make it happen.
