Colorado is a wonderful state. We’d even dare to argue that it’s the most wonderful state in this gigantic transcontinental empire of a country we all live in. From sea to shining sea and even beyond to Guam and Puerto Rico, there’s just nowhere else like Colorado’s very own rectangular slice of the Rocky Mountains.
And that’s probably why you’re on this page. You probably want to come here, but you’ll also be bringing someone with you. So, you’re understandably searching for some romantic lodges in Colorado to stay in. We get it. You don’t run a lodge in the most breathtaking place on the planet like we do without seeing a fair number of couples come and go.
And we’re here now to give you the rundown of some of our top picks.
Note: This article is not to be confused with our also great previous article about general places to get married, as this one is specifically about lodges where you can stay overnight.

1. Freight Leadville
Coming straight out of the gate with our cards on the table and disclosures ready, let’s talk about us. Yes, us, the ones writing this article. We run what we believe to be the #1 option in the state. The fact that we’re very biased and incentivized to say that is something we’re very aware of, so we’d understand if you’re skeptical. But we hope we can soothe your skepticism here.
Experience is everything: You see, the thing that really sets us apart is that, while we also have the great amenities you’ll find in many other romantic lodges in Colorado, we’re at the top for the experience you can have while you’re here. We’re smack in the middle of a historic mining town high up in the mountains, surrounded by all kinds of parks and outdoor activities you can engage in.
Happenings in town: Since we’re in an actual town, we also have events and cool things happening more frequently than at other lodges that are farther from human civilization. And what can be more romantic than exploring a new town in an exotic locale during a local festival in the midst of a magical changing of the seasons?
Seriously, this place rocks, and we’d say that even if we weren’t the people running it.

2. Juniper Lodge & Treehouses
Alright, we got our own plug out of the way first, so the rest of these are totally different places that we are not affiliated with and are not getting paid to endorse. They’re all good, though, and the first one we’ll start with is Juniper Lodge & Treehouses. And the reason we’re starting with them is that last part of their name.
Be like a kid again: Who wouldn’t want to spend the night in a fancy treehouse at least once in their life? The mere concept of a treehouse is already exciting. But a fancy one? That’s just too fun to pass on.
Or be rooted to the Earth: If you’re a scaredy cat who doesn’t like heights (we understand), their regular ground-level accommodations are also pretty amazing. Actually, if you can get past the fact that it’s not elevated above the ground, the regular lodge is probably nicer and has more amenities.
The one thing to know about the treehouses is that they’re not scheduled to open until December 1, 2025, and you’ll need to reserve in advance.

3. Cliff House Lodge & Hot Tub Cottages
Third on our list of romantic lodges in Colorado is the Cliff House Lodge. They’ve got 8 separate cottages, each with its own design and hot tub.
Custom looks: And when we say they’ve each got their own design, we feel we should really put emphasis on that. They really went out of their way to make those things interesting, both inside and out.
Don’t go hungry: They also throw in a homemade breakfast with your reservation, and there are numerous hiking and biking trails nearby.
To make it even better, they’re just close enough to Denver to be within convenient reach of the airport while also being just enough on the outskirts to give you access to nature. After all, nature is really what Colorado is all about.

4. Vista Verde Ranch
And lastly, #4 is the Vista Verde Ranch, which has made a conscious effort to orient its design and present itself as an ideal place for couples looking to spend some quality time together.
Go as a couple: Unsurprisingly, it’s a favorite among honeymooners and people on their anniversaries. The staff have also been known to provide some extra goodies if you let them know in advance that you’re booking for a special event or occasion.
Their standard pricing is also all-inclusive, so you don’t need to worry about getting billed $30 for drinking a sparkling water from the mini fridge or something.

Don’t Be a Stranger
And there you have it, four of the most desirable and romantic lodges in Colorado.
There are many more, to be sure. But we can’t write at length about all of them, and just giving you a raw list of names without any explanation or context wouldn’t help you much.
We hope this article has been informative, though, and we hope to see you here in Leadville while you’re in Colorado, even if you visit one of these other places first.
FAQ About Romantic Lodges in Colorado
Are there more romantic places to stay in Colorado beyond the four lodges listed in this article?
Yes! Colorado offers countless beautiful and romantic spots for couples. While this article focuses on four top lodges, you can find a comprehensive list of highly-rated accommodations in our full guide on the best places to stay in Colorado.
What makes a lodge “romantic” in Colorado?
Most couples look for quiet surroundings, great views, cozy rooms, and amenities like hot tubs, fireplaces, or private cabins. Many of the best spots also offer easy access to outdoor activities, which adds to the experience.
When is the best time to visit a romantic lodge in Colorado?
It depends on the kind of trip you want. Winter is perfect for a snowy, fireplace and hot tub getaway. Summer and fall are ideal for hiking, festivals, and exploring mountain towns. Spring tends to be quieter and usually offers better rates.
Are these lodges good for honeymoons or anniversaries?
Yes. Mountain lodges are especially popular with honeymooners and couples celebrating milestones, and many offer small extras or packages if you tell them why you’re visiting.
Do I need to book far in advance?
Colorado lodging fills up quickly during peak seasons, especially in mountain towns. If you’re planning a special trip or want unique accommodations booking well ahead is a good idea.
Are there romantic lodges near towns or do most sit in the middle of nowhere?
You’ll find both. Some, like FREIGHT in Leadville, give you the best of both worlds by offering mountain views and access to a real town with restaurants, events, and history. Others are more secluded if you want a quiet retreat.
What types of activities can couples do near these lodges?
You can hike, bike, soak in hot springs, explore national forests, go skiing in the winter, visit local shops, or check out seasonal festivals. Many lodges also offer their own on-site activities.
Which lodge is best for first time visitors to Colorado?
If you want a mix of scenery, comfort, and things to do, staying in or near a mountain town is a great pick. Leadville is a standout since you get high altitude views, history, and easy access to outdoor attractions.
