How To Choose A Region

Start with your guests, not the view. Where most of them are flying in from, and how comfortable they are driving mountain roads, will narrow the map fast.

Here is how the main regions compare:

• Denver and the Front Range: easiest travel, closest to Denver International Airport, mountain views from a distance. Best for big guest lists and lots of out-of-towners.
• Boulder and Colorado Springs: foothills settings with dramatic rock formations, still within about an hour or so of Denver.
• The central mountains: true high-country weddings, roughly two hours or more from Denver. Best for couples who want guests to make a weekend of it.
• Southwest Colorado: remote and historic, usually a flight into Durango or a long drive. Best for smaller, destination-style weddings.

Weather matters too. Mountain passes can close or slow down with snow outside summer, so if guests will drive over one, check CDOT road conditions as your date gets close.

Denver And The Front Range

1. The Manor House (Littleton)

The Manor House is a 1914 Georgian-style mansion on Ken-Caryl Ranch, about 25 minutes southwest of downtown Denver.

Its signature room is an 80-foot Great Room with a fireplace at each end, and a newer ballroom addition handles receptions of up to about 200 seated guests.

It is a strong pick if you want a grand, historic feel without asking anyone to drive into the mountains.

2. Denver Botanic Gardens (Denver)

The York Street gardens, near Cheesman Park, offer more than ten spaces for ceremonies, cocktail hours, and receptions.

Couples can choose garden lawns, water features like the Monet Pool, or indoor rooms, which gives you a backup plan built into the venue.

It works well for city weddings where guests are staying in downtown Denver hotels.

3. Colorado Chautauqua (Boulder)

Chautauqua sits at the base of Boulder’s Flatirons, with an outdoor ceremony site facing the mountains and the historic Community House for indoor ceremonies and getting ready.

The Dining Hall and its tent can seat around 260 guests for a plated dinner, and guests can stay in cottages on the grounds.

Add more than 40 miles of trails out the door and it is an easy place for guests to spend a full weekend.

4. Glen Eyrie Castle (Colorado Springs)

Glen Eyrie is a castle estate on more than 700 acres in Queen’s Canyon, next to the Garden of the Gods area, with red rock formations rising behind it.

Inside, the Great Hall has oak paneling and a large stone fireplace, and the grounds include lawns, gardens, and a terrace for outdoor ceremonies.

The property is owned by The Navigators, a Christian organization, and has overnight rooms on site, so check their event guidelines early in your planning.

The Central Mountains: Leadville, Vail, And The Arkansas Valley

This is where Colorado weddings start to feel like a trip. The drives are longer, but the payoff is fourteeners on the horizon and guests who stay for the whole weekend.

5. Freight (Leadville)

Freight is a restored 1800s freight depot in downtown Leadville, which at 10,152 feet is the highest incorporated city in the United States.

The main hall seats up to 220 guests under 32-foot ceilings, and the property has 13 guest cabins, so your people can walk from the reception to bed.

You bring your own vendors, the on-site ceremony is included, and if your guests book all the cabins, the party can run until 2 a.m. instead of 10 p.m.

6. Donovan Pavilion (Vail)

Built by the Town of Vail in 2003, Donovan Pavilion is a timber-and-stone lodge beside Gore Creek in West Vail.

Tall windows and arched beam ceilings look out on the valley and about 50 acres of open space, and the 5,200-square-foot hall seats around 200.

Because it is a town-owned venue, it gives you a Vail setting without a resort’s full-package pricing, though you will need to arrange guest lodging in town.

7. Mount Princeton Hot Springs Resort (Nathrop)

Mount Princeton sits between Buena Vista and Salida in the Arkansas Valley, below the Chalk Cliffs and the Collegiate Peaks.

The resort has two outdoor ceremony sites and four indoor event spaces, plus lodging that ranges from standard rooms to cabins for larger groups.

The hot springs pools are the obvious bonus: guests get a built-in activity the morning after.

8. The Strater Hotel (Durango)

The Strater has operated in downtown Durango since 1887, and its red-brick and sandstone building is filled with Victorian walnut antiques.

What Colorado Wedding Venues Cost, And When To Book

Venue pricing in Colorado varies widely. Most venues price in one of three ways: a flat site fee, a food-and-drink minimum, or a package that bundles rentals, catering, and coordination.

When you compare quotes, line them up on the same terms. A lower site fee with required in-house catering can cost more than a higher fee that lets you bring your own vendors.

A few things move the price the most:

• Day of the week: Fridays and Sundays usually cost less than Saturdays.
