4 Historic Wedding Barn Venues In Colorado

by Freight Leadville Co.

Colorado is and always has been a frontier state.

That’s our history, our culture, our vibe, and our mentality.

Even today, we’ve got just under 6 million people, which is far less than you’d expect of a state that has as much land as we do.

That’s because we’ve always been based on things like farming, mining, ranching, and railroads.

So it shouldn’t be surprising that there are a host of historic wedding barn venues in Colorado.

You won’t have much difficulty finding nice ones, but like most other things in this state, they’re a bit spread out.

So we’re writing this article to save you the trouble of driving around the whole state in search of them yourself.

1. Freight Leadville (Leadville)

This one’s us, of course.

We’re going to get our obvious biases out of the way first and just state that we think you should choose us.

But there are good reasons why.

Located right along the old railroad track in one of Colorado’s most historic mining towns and at high altitude, Leadville is unique in the state for allowing you to really get a feel for what a Rocky Mountain mining town must have been like back in the Gilded Age and all the way up until the modern era.

You can walk the same streets the pioneers walked and even get married in the historic freight depot that once acted as the beating heart of the town (and is now run by us)

You can also stay overnight in one of our equally aesthetic on-site cabins, which have been specifically renovated and designed to adhere to the period style.

If you want to really experience this town and its surroundings (which you should), it’s definitely best to stay for a night or even a weekend.

Get into your optimistic, go-getter pioneer spirit and come here to get a start on your new beginning, just like they did.

2. The Barn at Raccoon Creek (Littleton)

For those unfamiliar with Colorado, Littleton is kind of a suburb on the south side of Denver, where South Platte Park and Carson Nature Center are located.

Chatfield State Park is also down there, so it’s a great place to be if you want to do some hiking or relaxing by the lake after/before your wedding.

As for the venue itself, The Barn at Raccoon Creek has been family-owned since the 1800s, which is about as historical as you can get with barn venues here.

They’ve got a lovely property that’s just the right amount of lush in the summer and just the right amount of winter wonderland during the cold months.

And even though it’s a historic venue, they’ve souped it up with all the amenities and conveniences you’d expect from any modern venue.

3. Hatchet Ranch (Pueblo)

This venue is located south of Pueblo and just outside of Colorado City, which means that it’s in the more cowboy prairie part of the state.

And if that’s the sort of vibe you want your wedding to have, then this is the venue for you.

They’ve got fully renovated barns and stables that radiate Old West style, all situated on a yawning landscape of wide pastures and mountain peaks in the distance.

And to add to the rancher aesthetic that they lean hard into, they’ve also got some classic farm windmills, old wooden carts, and other things like that strategically placed around the property to create an even more thematic backdrop for the photos that we know you’ll want to take while you’re there.

From the creek out back to the horse-drawn carriage, this is the quintessential cowboy venue. Bring your boots and Stetson hats.

4. Storm King Mountain Ranch (Montrose)

Since this is a list of historic wedding barn venues in Colorado, it won’t shock you to see that there is another ranch on this list.

This one is a bit different from the last entry on the list, though.

While Hatchet Ranch leans hard in the more rough-and-tumble Old West vibe, Storm King Mountain Ranch has taken a property that used to be more like that and turned it into a more luxury-oriented venue.

Here, you’ll see high ceilings with Western-style chandeliers and sleek modern furniture alongside the aged wooden exteriors and wide open spaces you’d expect from a wedding barn venue in Colorado.

Basically, if you want the Old West with the New Luxury, you should consider Storm King Mountain Ranch.

By the way, it’s also worth mentioning that this ranch is located just up the road from Grand Mesa, Uncompahgre, and Gunnison National Forests.

Like, pretty much right next to them.

So even outside of the venue itself, you’ll have access to some of the best views and photo spots in all of the Rockies.

They’re All Good

There are so many more wedding barn venues in Colorado that we could talk about, but honestly, we just ran out of space here.

After all, an article can only be so long before people stop reading it.

We wish that weren’t so, and maybe we’ll write about more venues like this in the future, but that’s all for now.

If you want more suggestions, though, feel free to check out the other articles on our website in which we’ve covered different wedding venues of various types all over Colorado.

We’re sure you’ll be able to find one you’d like to be the place where you’ll start your new life together.

It doesn’t have to be us, but it certainly can be. 😉
